2017 CSPI Photo Contest Now Open for Submissions
The CSPI is pleased to announce that all partners have the opportunity to participate in our 2017 Photo Contest. Please submit your high quality photos using the Photo Contest application located on the CSPI hompage by May 31, 2018. Winners will be announced at the CSPI June annual meeting and posted to the CSPI website. Prizes will be a $100 gift certificate for those photos chosen. This contest spearheads many initiatives in marketing Corrugated Steel Pipe and Structural Plate Corrugated Steel.

Corrugated Steel Solutions Provide Substantial Savings to Taxpayers
As the Executive Director of the Corrugated Steel Pipe Institute (CSPI), I must admit to being biased.
But, that’s principally because during my 30+ years in the pipe and bridge industry, I’ve learned an awful lot about the unpredictable performance and cost of various construction materials. As a Canadian taxpayer, my only bias is trying to ensure that our governments are getting the best bang to optimize the return on each and every one of my tax dollars.

A deteriorated concrete box culvert conveying a tributary of the Saugeen River under Highway 21 had reached the end of its lifespan and was in need of replacement. Concern – the tributary’s support of a diverse range of coldwater fish species.

Seeing Is Believing: New Site Locations
Results from a growing network of current CSP culvert installation test sites, spread throughout every region of Canada, are intended to demonstrate how matching a particular CSP steel type and/or coating to the specific threats posed by its local environment can greatly extend its service life. Seeing is Believing is an ongoing, CSPI database initiative that measures and records performance and longevity at designated test sites.

This past month has witnessed a number of changes to CSPI’s Board and Executive Committees. We are sad to say goodbye to our Past President Kenzie MacPherson, formerly of Atlantic Industries, and to Allan and Betty Hubbell of ES Hubbell, and Guy Gelinas from ArcelorMittall, and Mike Mounts from DOW Chemical.

Chatham-Kent upgrades five historic road structures
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent in Southwest Ontario has a long history in agriculture and trade. The Chatham dockyards (est.1790) supplied food stocks and implements to the British Navy’s Lake Erie fleet and Tecumseh’s large tribal confederacy throughout the War of 1812. It was here on Oct 5, 1813 at the Battle of the Thames, that Tecumseh was killed while waiting for reinforcements to come by road from distant Fort Burlington. The road was poor, reinforcements didn’t come and our history took a turn.
